The Minority Senior Outreach and Advocacy Program provides outreach to seniors to identify problems and act as a referral program for seniors with available services in Saginaw County. Our staff also advocates for senior services, senior rights and for new programs to meet the needs of seniors.
Issues we help with include:
- Getting meals delivered to your home
- Linking citizens with seniors clubs
- Helping seniors stretch their food dollars
- Supplying information on Medicare/Medicaid
- Finding housing, or issues with your landlord
- Saving on energy costs
- Minor home repairs
- Fitness program (Click "Keep it Moving" for more information.)
- Learning to use cell phones and computers effectively (Click “Old Dogs Learning New Tricks” for more information.)
- The staff also acts as a referral program for other services, both within CAC and within other organizations.
The Minority Senior Outreach & Advocacy staff canvasses the Saginaw County communities to help find isolated seniors, visits senior housing, and conducts on-site presentations. The staff will assist seniors with completing the necessary paperwork to apply for this program.
Eligibility criteria are:
- There is NO income limit
- You must be age 60+
- You must be a Saginaw Country resident
To apply for service, bring:
- Picture ID
- Social Security Card
- Proof of income (Not needed to receive assistance from Saginaw CAC, but will be required to determine eligibility for assistance from other services)
Keep It Moving
Join the Keep It Moving group to improve your fitness and make your day brighter! Light exercise/walking in a comfortable, indoor environment. The group meets at SCCAC, 2824 Perkins Mondays and Wednesdays from 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM.

Old Dogs Learning New Tricks – Help for Seniors with Cell Phones and Computers
If you think “swiping” is stealing, a “mouse” is a house pest and a “tablet” is what God gave to Moses, you need to be “updated”. Senior Outreach offers classes and individual training on how to use your “smart” phone, tablet computer, laptop computer and/or desktop computer.
You must meet the following eligibility criteria (Click Eligibility) and register with Senior Outreach to receive this help. Eligibility criteria for "Keep It Moving" and/or "Old Dogs Learning New Tricks" are:
- Be at least 60 years old
- Income at, or below, 200% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines. Click to View Dollar Amounts
- Saginaw County Resident
To apply for "Keep It Moving" and/or "Old Dogs Learning New Tricks" bring:
- Proof of residency (State issued I.D.) for all adults residing in household
- Social Security cards for all household members
- Proof of income for most recent 3 months

- Bank Statements ARE NOT accepted
- If you, or anyone in your household, receives food stamps (FAP) benefit, documentation MUST BE provided
